News: Careers Development Professionals Awareness Day reaches 3 million people

Finito World

It’s now the third consecutive year of the #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs Campaign which was hosted on LinkedIn on 3 February.

On Monday, 3rd February 2025, Career Development Professionals (CDPs) across the world took part in a LinkedIn flashmob to share posts revealing the multifaceted nature of their profession. The campaign inspires and educates the public by offering a behind-the-scenes look at the impact of CDPs in areas such as personal empowerment, community building, mental health support, and organizational growth.

This year over 3.3 million people were successfully reached through the online campaign, and CDPs from 30 different countries participated including professionals from: Australia, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Uganda, the United Arab Emirates, England, Wales, Scotland and the United States of America.

Co-founder  Katherine Jennick told Finito World: “I’ve always known the value that CDPs bring to individuals and society, I’ve seen it everyday of my career. But what has saddened and frustrated me is that outside of the sector, it’s often misunderstood and undervalued. This is what spurred me on alongside Bella to start this campaign and shine a light on the profession we hold so dear. We wanted to raise awareness of the life-changing work done every day by CDPs worldwide.”

So how did the initiative begin? “What started as the meeting of two minds has evolved into the most incredible global movement, a passionate collective voice. This is a community with a big heart. We care deeply about our work and the people and communities we support. It was clear very early on that Bella and I were not alone in wanting to change the perception of our profession.”

What kind of trajectory of growth has the campaign seen? “The campaign has grown over the last two years and what we have seen this year is nothing short of incredible. The sheer number of people who got involved to celebrate Year 3 is a testament to how passionate this community is. CDPs came out in force using their creativity to illustrate to the world what a dedicated and highly skilled workforce we are. I’ve never been so proud to be a CDP. I hope we can build#SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs on the progress we’ve made so far and that the lasting legacy of this campaign will be that the work of CDPs around the world will be recognised, valued and celebrated”.

Jennick’s fellow co-founder Bella Doswell added: “It’s been fantastic to see Career Development Professionals (CDPs) from around the world unite in a shared mission to elevate our profession’s impact. The #SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs campaign was created by Katherine and I to offer a platform for CDPs to show the public that our work extends far beyond reviewing a CV or providing job search tips — Career Development Professionals translate individual ambition into the realities of labour markets around the world.”

So how are things evolving at the initiative? “Year three of the campaign has strengthened the interconnected global networks of CDPs, fostering more collaboration, knowledge exchange, and advocacy for the profession,” Doswell explains. “#SoMuchMoreThanTalkingAboutJobs has allowed CDPs to voice just what goes on Behind the Scenes in how we empower individuals, strengthen economies, and contribute to a more equitable society.”
